From Toulouse, first drive to Carcassonne and spend a few hours exploring this epic city. Then we go to Alet le Bains, Camon, and eventually this little gem of a village called Mirepoix.
First we drive to Carcassonne, a fantastic and impressive fortified city, complete with ramparts, towers, and other middle age defensive structures.
I recommend visiting the Royal Castle in the center, which allows access to the walking tour along the ramparts. Walking through this museum you will learn about the history of this impressive reconstructed city.
Next we go to Alet les Bains. Here you will see 12th century Abbey ruins, a very ancient church & churchyard, an ancient stone bridge over a fast running river plus the most stunning river scenery.
There is nothing touristy or tacky about Alet le Bains.
Next on the itinerary is the village of Camon, before arriving in colorful Mirepoix, a typical Bastide village.
This day is all about driving through beautiful countryside in the region we call Occitania.
