Visit Dordogne & the Perigord – the most beautiful region! The Dordogne Sightseeing Tour takes you to the very heart of France. For example, you’ll explore authentic 12th century fortified castles. In addition, you’ll enjoy visiting charming medieval fortified villages perched over the lazy Dordogne river.
The Dordogne Sightseeing Tour departs from Bordeaux, and the tour lasts about 8 hours. We begin by visiting Les Eyzies and Sarlat-La-Caneda. Sarlat, the capital of Dordogne – with its old town cobble-stoned streets – boasts the largest collection of 11th century buildings in France. After that we’ll visit La Roque Gageac, Domme, Marqueyssac Gardens the Chateau de Beynac and Castelnaud-la-Chapelle.
The Chateau de Beynac is one of the most famous and best-preserved medieval fortresses in France.
Consequently, this strategic location and defensive construction made it virtually impenetrable.
Across the river from the Chateau de Beynac lies another Medieval Fortress, Castelnaud-la- Chapelle. This castle once belonged to King Richard the Lionheart, and today houses an impressive collection of medieval weapons. You’ll see maces and halberds, English bows and decorative crossbows. There are also functional Catapults and Trebuchets – on some days you can see them being fired!
La Roque Gageac, for example, is one of “the most beautiful villages of France”. This little village is nestled between rocky cliffs and the Dordogne River. Its a nice place to have a short stroll, maybe shop a little and take some photos.
The Dordogne Sightseeing Tour takes you to Domme, a fortified hilltop Bastide village. Built on top of the cliffs, Domme certainly offers an enormous, spectacular panoramic view over the valley.
